How thick should a concrete driveway be in Florida?
Minimum 4 inches for residential driveways with passenger vehicles. For RV pads, boat trailers, and heavy equipment, 6 inches with #4 rebar on 18-inch centers is standard. Sub-base is equally important — 4–6 inches of compacted limerock or crushed concrete under the slab.
Are pavers better than poured concrete for a patio?
Pavers handle Florida's soil movement better because they flex independently rather than cracking as a monolithic slab. They are also easier to repair — you can pull and reset individual pavers. Concrete is typically cheaper per square foot but has higher repair costs when it fails. Both need proper sub-base preparation.
How long do asphalt millings last on a driveway?
Properly compacted recycled asphalt millings on a prepared base last 10–15+ years. They harden over time as the residual asphalt binder re-activates in Florida's heat. They are significantly cheaper than hot-mix asphalt and work well for rural driveways, farm roads, and large parking areas.
